brief history of the Association...
The Association is a voluntary community based, non-profit, non-political, non-sectarian and non-religious organisation.
Its membership is open to any person who pays a membership fee and abide by its constitution. It provides a wide range of welfare services to Cambodian settlers in Victoria.
Establishment
Since 1982 large number of Cambodian refugees began to settle in the area around the Enterprise Migrant Hotel in Springvale.
However, there was no ethno-specific Khmer organisation existed in the area to cater for their settlement needs. A survey conducted among the Cambodian residents in early 1985 indicated an overwhelming need for such a Cambodian community association to emerge to take up this challenge.
The Association was inaugurated on 21 July 1985. The founders were community leaders with long records of involvement in community affairs in Cambodia or since the first Cambodian refugee intake in 1976. It was registered as an incorporated Association on 2nd April 1987.
